Long Live the Species

Over nine days in October 2022 the forest of Willsons Downfall, NSW played host to a collaboration between Day of the Species and Harrigans Lane Collective.

Long Live the Species at Harrigans Lane was the fourth iteration of the Day of the Species project.

This ongoing, ever-evolving community art exhibition aims to raise awareness of the biodiversity crisis in Australia. At the time of this exhibition there were 1,853 flora and fauna on our national threatened species list.

As of 5 July 2023 that number is 1,913.

EPBC Act listing for threatened species

In the most comprehensive artistic representation of our threatened flora and fauna all 1,853 species were displayed in a venue nestled in the forest on the property.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors were invited to view large scale original artworks of local threatened species, placed in the forest along a 15 minute bush walk on the property. All artworks were painted onto recycled cardboard by artists from across Australia and have been left immersed in in the landscape to slowly fade and deteriorate.
